This majestic complex extends over about half a hectare and was commissioned by Tiberio Crispo, Cardinal Deacon of Sant’Agata and governor of Bolsena during the 16th century. Its construction was made possible thanks to the privileges derived from Crispo’s close relationship with Pope Paul III. These privileges allowed for the employment of the best artists and architects of the time, such as Raffaelo Da Montelupo, Simone Mosca, Prospero Fontana, Tommaso da Bevilacqua, and Giulio Merisi.
Tiberio Crispo, born in 1498, was an influential figure of the Italian Renaissance, closely tied to the Farnese family. Thanks to the support of Pope Paul III, Crispo transformed his architectural vision into reality, creating a residence that reflected the prestige and power of his family.
