Montefiascone has ancient origins, dating back to the Etruscan era. Its name derives from the Latin “Mons Faliscorum,” meaning “Mountain of the Falisci,” an Italic people who inhabited this area. During the Middle Ages, Montefiascone became an important religious and commercial center due to its strategic location along the Via Francigena, the pilgrimage route connecting Canterbury to Rome.
